ABOUT THE ARTIST

Karl Kaiser

Encaustic is Karl’s primary medium, chosen for the unique depth and texture it offers. He manipulates the wax through scraping, impressions, heat and smoothing techniques to evoke the natural world as seen through his camera lens.  Inspired by his surroundings, Karl walks daily to capture nature, which is a crucial part of his creative process and where most of his ideas take shape.  Elements such as trees, natural textures, reflections, sunrises, sunsets, flower petals, and dew drops all influence his work. This inspiration is especially evident in his new "Journey" series, showcased here. Karl captures the interplay of light and motion, aiming to create landscapes with varying vitalities, vibrancies, and moods, inviting viewers to connect with places from their own memories. Karl’s works are represented in galleries in Portland, Or and Astoria, Or and are in private collections throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Germany. Karl’s publications include:50 States/200 Artists, Museum of Encaustic Art, 2019Encaustic Arts, Spring 2016, Volume 5, Issue 2Experience Painting, John Howell White, Davis Publications, Inc, 2015Sixth Annual Encaustic Invitational, Conrad Wilde Gallery, 2011Poppycock Magazine, 1st Edition
